Aluminum Foil Hints & Tips

Having a picnic, but don't want to grill your food on that icky grill that the park provides? Not to worry! Just line the grill with heavy duty foil and poke some holes in it. Your food won't be on that dirty, nasty grate, and you still get all the great flavor you want! Go ahead and do this on your BBQ grill at home to make clean-up super simple!

Want to cook fish on the grill but don't have a basket? Create a "boat" out of aluminum foil with at least a double thickness of foil. The foil will hold the delicate fish while you still get that great grilled flavor!

Want to smoke something in the grill? Soak a bunch of wood chips in water for about half an hour. Place them inside a foil packet (leaving room for air to circulate) and poke a bunch of holes in the packet. Place that inside the grill and you've got a great way to add delicious smoke flavor to your food with no cleanup!

Did you know you can make your own foil pot? Take at least four sheets of heavy duty foil and mold them around a coffee can or other container in the size you need. Roll down the edges for added stability. Be sure to use something firm to carry the pot back and forth, though!

Making fajitas? Place your tortillas in a foil packet and place it on the grill while you're grilling the meat to heat them without drying them out and getting crispy. While you're at it, go ahead and put your onions and peppers in a foil packet with some butter or olive oil to heat them up as well!

Did you know that you can "make" a great scrubbie for cleaning the grill or even your Dutch oven with a wadded up piece of foil?

Want to keep your muffins or fresh homemade bread warm? Line the bottom of the basket or tray with foil and cover with a pretty towel. Place muffins or bread on top. The foil will help to radiate the heat and keep the muffins or bread warm.

Wrap your kitchen matches in foil to keep them from getting wet or damp when you're out camping.

"Wrap" doorknobs and other hardware in foil prior to painting to protect them from drips!

Can't find your funnel? Just roll some foil in a cone shape and snip off the narrow end. Whallah! You have a funnel!

Place a sheet of heavy duty foil on the bottom rack in your oven to catch drippings and help keep the oven clean, especially when cooking pizza directly on the upper rack.

Problems with static cling when you take your clothes out of the dryer? Crumple up a ball of foil and toss it in the dryer with the wet clothes. We're not sure why this works, but it does!

Keep your tootsies toasty at night while cold-weather camping by wrapping some stones in aluminum foil and heating them by the campfire. At bedtime, wrap the stones in towels and put them in the bottom of your sleeping bag.

And the most important use for aluminum foil! A foil hat will prevent aliens from reading your mind!
